The power of subtraction.

What if what you’re asking for you don’t have room enough to receive?

Ouch.

Yeah, I know. I feel the same way. But in this season of subtraction God has reminded me of something beautiful: more can mean clutter and clutter is overwhelming. So let’s declutter and make room for what we actually want.

You with me?

Everything that removes isn’t because we didn’t want it or it didn’t want us. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have it but maybe we aren’t great at stewardship of that particular thing just yet. Or maybe, we have too many small cups when what we really need is a large pitcher.

In order to go forward some of us need to take a giant step back. Not to lose sight of the bigger picture but to gain clarity of where we’re over-committed, overwhelmed and overcome with past emotions.

The step back is to breathe. The releasing takes time. It takes processing. It takes being brutally honest with yourself. It takes saying “no” to this thing in order to make room for the “yes” you’ve been dreaming of.

I don’t know what your subtraction is but I know that this journey of subtraction was tough. I cried. I asked why. I was annoyed. And I thought I was losing something. But everything God has allowed to be subtracted from me, He’s held me hand as I fully let it go. He’s given me a few things but more than anything He gave me PEACE to withstand the blank space.

He’s given me rest.

He’s given me sight.

He’s given me perspective.

He’s given me dreams.

He’s given me vision.

He’s told me about multiplication.

He’s called me whole.

He’s called me daughter.

He’s called me friend.

And that alone has been enough to get me through losing anything and everything.

So, what will you subtract from your life??

Growth in all aspects is on the other side.
